Spots of the Leopard

I installed Leopard on my iMac at work. Installation was smooth. My first impression was not favorable -- I thought the new interface too angular, but that soon dissipated and my second impression was that the interface appearance seemed new and shiny and I liked it.

Here's what I like about it best:

Spaces -- it works very nicely, giving me virtual desktops. I like that I can CNTRL arrow between them, and see the grid as I move through them. I like that I can CNTRL 1, 2, 3 and so forth into them directly. I like that I can set some apps to appear in every window (handy with a second monitor, which I also installed this week). I'm using a nine grid currently (which looks odd on a dual monitor system -- eighteen monitors represented). And, of course, I love that I can associate certain programs with certain frames in the grid.

As I use the system, things switch transparently from one to the other and it feels fast and productive. I've not sensed some great hit in memory because of this (I have 3 gig). So, all in all, I really like spaces. Here are my few gripes:

1 - let me assign a mouse function to bring up the switcher. But, f8 works just fine.
2 - let me have separate wallpaper in separate spaces
3 - let me decide which desktop items should appear in which spaces, including the default of "every space", just like you've done for programs.

Next post I'll talk about iChat.
